Make sure this is actually the step you are on. If an item or prompt is missing, backtrack one room and check the inventory first.
Part 1: The Darkness & Supplies
You arrive in Level 6 via the roller coaster from Level 94. The area is pitch black.
- The Flashlight Room: To your right upon entering, there is a room containing a flashlight. While useful, it may attract unwanted attention.
- The Medicine Room: To your left, there is a room with Almond Water/Medicine. Grab these if you are low on sanity or health.
Part 2: The LiDAR Scanner
From the starting area, follow the path forward past a table with a drawer. Continue navigating carefully until you reach a room with computers and equipment on a table. Here you will find the LiDAR Scanner.
How it works: The scanner emits laser points that stick to walls and objects, outlining the geometry of the room. It is your only reliable way to see the path ahead.
Part 3: The Wretch (Blind Entity)
The maze is inhabited by Wretches (also referred to as Behemoths in the video).
- Blindness: These entities cannot see you. They rely entirely on sound.
- Stealth Strategy: ALWAYS CROUCH when moving near them. Walking or running will alert them to your location.
- Pathing Logic: The entity generally tracks your last known position. As long as you keep moving quietly and don't backtrack directly into them, they cannot catch you. Wait for them to pass before moving.
Part 4: Navigation Strategy - "Hug the Right"
The maze is complex and full of dead ends. As demonstrated in the walkthrough:
- Avoid Small Rooms: Small doors usually lead to dead ends. Look for larger openings and hallways.
- The Golden Rule: Hug the right-hand wall. While the player initially tries going left and hits dead ends, sticking to the right wall and choosing right turns generally leads to the correct path through the largest spaces.
- Correction: If you hit a dead end, simply turn around and take the other path. The Wretches are slow, so you have time to correct mistakes.
Part 5: The Hidden Door & Exit
Near the end of the level, you may encounter a metal door marked with the M.E.G. logo.
- The Hidden Level: This door leads to a secret level, but it is locked (greyed out on the scanner) on your first playthrough. It only unlocks after you have completed all levels in the game.
- The Real Exit: Continue past the hidden door to find a standard white residential door. Open it to exit Level 6 and proceed to Level 7 (Thalassophobia).
Escape the Backrooms: Level 6 Walkthrough Video
We use this as the quick “don’t make the same mistake twice” checklist. If your room, spawn, or prompt does not match the video, stop and check the normal route first—patches and co-op timing can make an old shortcut look tempting when it simply will not work.
Look around slowly before guessing. Props can hide chairs, switches, notes, and pickups; a second camera angle is usually faster than brute force.
Call out what was pressed, collected, or opened. It prevents the classic “we all thought somebody did it” reset.
If a skip behaves inconsistently, leave it and take the intended route. A clean run beats getting stuck in geometry.
In Lights Out, use names and landmarks, not “over here.” Keep a light carrier in front and make the second player call doors behind the group so the team does not split at a dark junction.

What each entity does on this route, and the move that keeps the encounter under control.
Wretch
A Wretch inhabits the dark maze. It cannot see there, appears as a red dot on LiDAR, and can be tracked by breathing when close.
Use short scans, crouch as the dot moves toward the screen center, and pass along the side without sprinting or crowding it.
